320 days of sun
and 2500 years of history

Marseillan

As well as being a place of character, Marseillan also possesses the charm of the small, southern towns of Southern France. The fresh summer feeling of the narrow streets, the preserved natural spaces, beaches of fine sand, its pleasure-boating port, and not forgetting the 320 days of sunshine a year. Convinced, yet?

The port of
Marseillan

Make that ports, plural, for two of them! The first port is situated in Marseillan Ville a former fishing port-turned trading port during the 19th century, and a pleasure port today.

Right near this port, you will find shops, boutiques and restaurants a-plenty. The rest of the port can be found near Marseillan Plage, where you can admire the breathtaking view of the stars of the port, the boats, or the catamarans, from the pier.

The Canal du Midi

A member of the UNESCO World Heritage List since the 7th of December 1996, the Canal du Midi ensures the connection between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean via the land. Along with the help of a second canal, the canal Latéral in Garonne, these canals form the Deux Mers.

The source of this path is located in Toulouse, before heading 240 km further to Marseillan, and finishing up in the étang de Thau lagoon. For those who choose, the canal can be explored many different ways: on foot or by bike, for example, thanks to the towing paths that have been converted into walking and cycling paths. Or, why not opt for a boat ride?

Escape for a few hours to head off and explore the Bagnas reserve and the Thau lagoon. These sites, classed as National Nature Reserves since 1983, invite you to come and explore a world of unique landscapes and incredible biodiversity.

The Bagnas Reserve

An important national hibernation point, the Bagnas reserve is home to a multitude of bird species, such as flamingoes, herons (both the grey and purple kinds), elegant egrets and western marsh harriers. This reserve is also a refuge for a rare species or two, such as the black stork, the osprey, the kentish plover and more… many more, 224 species of bird in total!

Educational activities are organised all year-round to bring awareness and allow citizens to observe our surrounding fauna and flora.

Don’t forget your binoculars…

Thau archipelago

More than a mere stretch of water, this place is home to a wide, diverse range of Mediterranean landscape, as well as its biodiversity we aim to preserve.

The largest artificial lake of Occitania, classed as a Natura 2000 member, the Thau lagoon has a whole host of activities for visitors to try out: whether you fancy a bit of a hiking, a bike ride, a chance to sample the local delicacies, enjoy a horse ride, or a canoe or kayak ride if you prefer, as well as kitesurfing, and more…
